Surfs up and sweetgrass! The weekend is here and it’s time to celebrate. There are some great events to check out around town this weekend.
19th Annual Sweetgrass Festival
Saturday, July 22 - Mount Pleasant Memoral Waterfront Park
The annual Sweetgrass Festival in Mount Pleasant is a celebration of the Gullah Geechee people’s history, culture, traditions and their sweetgrass basket art form that originated in Mount Pleasant and continues to exist around the Lowcountry today.
This day at Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park provides an opportunity for engagement, interaction and exposure to the Gullah Geechee people’s culture.
Admission is free and the day will be filled with live entertainment, kids activities, local basket makers showcasing their art, a photo booth, demonstrations and good food.
Parking is limited at Memorial Waterfront Park due to current construction. Free wheelchair-accessible shuttle buses will run continually from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. from Mount Pleasant Town Hall located at 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Parking at Town Hall is free.
Surf Video Premiere
Saturday, July 22 - Mex 1 West Ashley
Surfs up! Warrior Surf Foundation and Mex 1 are teaming up for the mini documentary premiere.
Wavebound is about a surf retreat in Playa Dominical, Costa Rica with the Warrior Surf Foundation staff and Veteran graduates of the surf therapy program. It was a week full of wellness, surf coaching and great food and drinks.
The video will be playing on the big screen out in the back parking lot. There will be an outdoor food and bar set up, live music from Ben Whitney and an awesome raffle with a 100% of proceeds benefitting Warrior Surf Foundation. The event is a $10 entry which includes 10 raffle tickets and runs 6-10 p.m.
Mex 1 is a personal favorite for tacos and margaritas. Win – win in my book!
Christmas in July
Saturday, July 22 - Firefly Distillery
It’s beginning to look a lot like….cocktails! Head to Firefly from 12 – 6 p.m.
Santa is on his summer vacation and spreading some holiday cheer at Firefly on Spruill Ave. in North Charleston! Get into the holiday spirit with festive cocktails, Christmas music and a taste of the holiday season!
Dancing on the Cooper
Saturday, July 22 - Mount Pleasant Pier
Summertime calls for live music and dancing on the Mount Pleasant Pier! Local bands perform a variety of live music while you dance the night away! Let loose, breathe in the harbor breeze and enjoy the night under the stars and the Ravenel Bridge!
